Thank you all who have gone before
You sweated and struggled so that we could have more
Your work and courage helped build tomorrow
For our generations and more to follow

Thank you for your sacrifice and a lifetime of toil

No opportunity for education as you worked the soil
Working so hard and faithfully to build a family all able
Seven days a week to put food on the table

Making the most of a childhood littered with pain  
Loyal and hard working for a master without shame
Your entire generation lived through poverty and war
To fight for a future without conflict anymore 

Ferried away to fight in a place unknown 

Leaving behind heartache and families then so alone

Sent in groups like sheep and cattle to slaughter 

Told it would be a better world for every son and daughter 

Looking back with hindsight at the heartache and pain

It’s hard to fathom the lives lost for an unknown future to gain 

Reluctant warriors fighting for freedom and a cause  

Next generations never looking back to reflect and pause 

Now a generation who do not appreciate history so sad
Past sacrifices downplayed as unworthy and bad
Young people so entitled and critical of those women and men
Forgetting that everything they have has been handed to them

Our forefathers efforts and struggles taken for granted we know 

Salute and thank you our forefathers who paved the way long ago
You made our lives easier through the sacrifices so brave

We remember you now with respect and a lifestyle you saved.
